Open My Heart (Aprimi il cuore, 2002) is an Italian drama written and directed by Giada Colagrande. The film centers on two sisters living in a closed, codependent world. Maria (Natalie Cristiani) works as a prostitute from their apartment and exerts total control over her younger sister Caterina (Giada Colagrande). By day Maria educates Caterina in literature and culture; by night she introduces her to sex work and draws her into an incestuous relationship. The story explores themes of domination, prostitution, sisterly incest, emotional dependency and the gradual corruption of the younger sister as she begins to rebel and form outside attachments.
