The Earth Is a Sinful Song (original Finnish title: Maa on syntinen laulu, also known as The Land of Our Ancestors or Earth Is Our Sinful Song) is a 1973 Finnish drama film directed, written, and produced by Rauni Mollberg. The film is set in a remote, harsh peasant community in Finnish Lapland before/during the late 1940s. It follows young Martta (played by Maritta Viitamäki), a sexually awakening teenage girl living in a one-room farmhouse with her dysfunctional family, including her alcoholic father and grandfather.

She begins an intense, ill-fated affair with Oula, a charismatic but womanizing reindeer herdsman. When she becomes pregnant, it triggers a cascade of family outrage, tragedy, violence, alcoholism, religious fervor, and hardship. The story is known for its unflinching, gritty realism—depicting rural life with sex, death, animal slaughter, blood, and human brutality alongside the stark natural beauty of the landscape.
