Directed by Junichi Suzuki, On the Beach (1985) is a classic Japanese pink film set in the beautiful Shonan village during summer. The story follows Sumiko, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy upper-class family, who is recovering from a failed arranged marriage while discovering a strong, dangerous attraction to the rough and mysterious Nishina. Her younger sister Naomi, envious of Sumiko’s beauty and the attention she receives from men, becomes increasingly jealous. Both sisters then become embroiled in a major problem in discovering the real intentions of Nishina, a man who hides behind a mask to rape women.
